For several decades after India became independent, the state-owned television network – Doordarshan – enjoyed complete monopoly in the country. It was after the economic liberalization of 1991 that satellite television took off in India. One of the first companies to enter India to offer a bunch of satellite channels was STAR TV , the Hong Kong-based subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch-owned 21st Century Fox Inc (Fox) . In 1994, STAR was founded as a subsidiary of Fox to manage the Indian operations of STAR TV. . |
